If you are a nurse with overseas qualifications wanting to work in Australia, contact the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC), or the registering authority in the State or Territory where you want to work, for information about how to register.
The ANMC website also provides information about levels of nursing in Australia, educational preparation and competency standards for beginning nurses.

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC)
The ANMC is a peak national nursing body concerned with national standards and processes for the regulation of nursing. The ANMC has developed the ANMC National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse and the Enrolled Nurse, the ANMC Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia and the ANMC Code of Professional Conduct.
The ANMC also undertakes the assessment of overseas-qualified nurses for the purpose of migration and has been gazetted by the Minister for Immigration to perform the assessment function for the occupation of nursing.

Further information is available from the ANMC website at www.anmc.org.au or email: anmc@anmc.org.au

Australian Nursing Federation
The wages and conditions for nurses in Australia are determined by various Awards and Agreements. Generally speaking, awards of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission provide the legal minimum for wages and working conditions. In addition to this, nurses in the public health sector and in private hospitals are normally covered by an industrial agreement which provide additional wages and working conditions. While there is some degree of consistency, wages and conditions can vary depending on the relevant State/Territory and the specific area of nursing.

Further information may be accessed through ANF Branch websites.
